New International Students
Welcome International Students to San Francisco State University, San Francisco, and the Great State of California! We’re beyond excited to welcome you to SF State. We’re here to help you with any general information you may need to make sure your transition to the University is as smooth as possible.
Please note: New Student Programs works closely with the Office of International Programs to support new international student transitions. If you haven’t yet contacted the Office of International Programs, please do so to confirm important next steps for your transition to SF State: oip@sfsu.edu

International students in F-1 student visa status should attend the International Student Welcome Programming and Orientation before the start of their first semester!
You can begin your Orientation Registration, or change the date of your Orientation, HERE.
F-1 students are not required to attend the New Student Orientation in June or July, except for those F-1 students who are transferring from California community colleges.
Special note for California community college transfer F-1 students:
You are encouraged to attend the New Student Orientation in January, June or July (depending if you are a new Spring or Fall admitted student). If you do, you will only need to attend the International Student Orientation & Welcome, from the Office of International Programs in before the start of your first semester.
If you are not able to attend the New Student Orientation in January, June or July, please attend the entire International Student Orientation when announced (typically a day or two before the start of the semester). You will receive the same information that was given during the New Student Orientations that took place during January, June and July.
