What Session Type Is Right For You?

New Student and Family Programs is providing students and their guest with various modalities of Orientation. We have listed all the session types below for you to review BEFORE selecting an orientation session.  

 

NEW FIRST-YEAR (FRESHMEN) ORIENTATION SESSIONS

*Note: Entering freshman class size for spring semester is small. We will offer 1 on-campus orientation session.

**Note: The Remote Orientation Workshop facilitated January 10, is from from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. PST, remotely via Zoom. 

***Note: The Remote Orientation Workshop facilitated January 17, is from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. PST, remotely via Zoom.

Remote Orientation Workshops are good options for new international Freshman or new domestic freshman who cannot make it to the in-person orientation session.

New Student and Family Programs is excited to welcome students and their support systems to campus for orientation. Our 1-Day in person program is great for students who want to see campus, will be in the Bay Area or plan o be, and want to connect face to face with advisors, peers, and mentors. Our 1-Day program is offered for both our First Time Freshman and our Transfer students as well. By attending a 1-Day in person orientation session you will receive the following which is included in the $70 orientation fee for students.

  • Free Gator Swag (folder, lanyard, notebook, pen, ID Card, etc)
  • An opportunity to meet staff, faculty, and academic advisors in person
  • Meet campus departments face to face to get all your questions answered
  • Meet with Orientation Leaders to hear about their experiences here at SF State
  • Get a feel of what campus is like and what you will be joining in your new semester
  • Have the opportunity to tour the campus and learn about the community
  • After Orientation have the ability to learn about and explore San Francisco and the Bay Area
  • Opportunity to register for courses

Cost:
Orientation Fee: $70

Guest Fee: $40

New Student and Family Programs is will still be offering select remote sessions for both First Time Freshman and Transfer students during orientation. Remote orientation Sessions will be facilitated remotely via Zoom. Remote orientation sessions are great for:

  • International Students
  • Students who live out of state
  • Students who live in Southern California

Although not limited to these specific groups of students it is important to note we highly encourage students to attend an in person orientation to get a real feel of campus life. The remote orientation fee for students is $50 and includes the following:

  • Virtual meet student mentors (Orientation Leaders) and peers
  • Recordings of department presentations
  • Virtual meet with academic advisors (Academic presentations and advising)
  • Opportunity to register for your courses

Orientation Fee: $50

Guest Fee: $10 (Includes Family Top 5 Workshop)

We are excited to welcome you to an overnight experience at SF State! Our overnight orientation program is designed to get you connected to students, staff, faculty, buildings and the community here at SF State. Students who select this date as their Orientation session will have the opportunity to spend one night in one of our Residential Life buildings on campus. Not only will you be able to stay the night on campus but we will also provide you with meals from various food vendors on campus so you are aware of your options while you are here at SF state in the fall and beyond. Our Orientation Leaders are excited to meet you and have a fun filled days planned with you with opportunities to connect and network and late night programming to have fun and be social through the night!

Student Cost:
Orientation Fee: $70

On-Campus Lodging: $60 (Room/bed, linens, 2 additional meals)

Total: $130

Guest Cost:
Guest Fee: $60 (on-campus lodging NOT provided for guests. Includes 2 additional meals)
